Boca Chita, which translates small mouth in Spanish, is a small island in Biscayne Bay about 8 miles south of Miami.  Originally a private island, the owner excavated a small protected basin and built the non-navigational lighthouse and several other buildings.  Now owned by the Park Service, Boca Chita is a popular destination for weekend boaters.
